What are Kawa Baths?


The kawa is a cauldron used in the preparation of sugar. By heating the sugar cane, the inhabitants were able to obtain sweet molasses for their preparation. With the advent of industrialization, these giant pots were no longer useful. Industrialists could create sugar and molasses in large quantities from more sophisticated machines. But then what were to become of these great cauldrons? In a country where everything is recycled, local residents quickly came up with the idea of turning them into a bathtub. Better yet, the population decided to make it a tourist attraction.

This is how the Kawa Bath relaxation were born, a kind of giant pots that are filled with water and brought to a boil. The adventurous bather can enjoy a relaxing bath.

How does it work?


Don’t be in a hurry, using a Kawa bath takes a little time to prepare. It will take between 45 minutes and an hour to heat your bath. The site staff will first set fire to the bath and keep the flame alive for long minutes to allow the water to rise gently in temperature. Then herbs, flowers, and fragrant leaves will be placed in the bath. These different ingredients allows to perfume the bath, and to enjoy an infusion of plants with restorative virtues.

The fire is then lowered to a minimum, but continues to burn. It’s time to dip yourself in the bath. All of a sudden? Not unhappy! Slowly enter the pan, manage yourself to stay on the plastic part that protects you from burning melt. Give your body a few minutes until it adapts to the heat. Then, little by little get into the bath and relax. You can then enjoy this boiling water which has the particularity to relieve the sore and tired muscles.

The best places to relax in a Kawa Bath


For relaxation, the most famous Kawa Baths are located in the city of Tibiao. You can find this town on the island of Tanay in the Visayan region. To get there, you can take one of the four major airports on the island. But the quickest and easiest way is to get to the port of Caticlan. From there you can take a bus that will take you directly to the Tibiao. You do not get off in the Visayans, there are other places where it is possible to take a hot bath. Indeed, near Manila on the island of Luzon. The seaside resort of Tanay is also a home of swimming spot. To get there, you will have to get up early and prepare about 500 pesos per person. Once there, you can explore large wild plains while your bath heats up.
